Caroline Bott
By training she is a research chemist, specializing in physical chemistry (no innuendoes please). She now works in computing.
Down the years, hobbies have included working at a preserved steam
railway, singing in the chorus in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, epee
fencing and, more recently, English Civil War battle re-enactments and
living histories, not to mention keeping bees.
She and her partner live in England and, when they are not at work or at
English Civil War events, spend their time gardening, looking after the
bees and writing sci-fi, fantasy and of course book reviews. To stop
getting bored they also take on the odd cat from the rescue centre (and
some are downright peculiar).
Likes far too many books to restrict herself to a top ten!
To give you an idea, if she picked one or two to represent all the areas
she reads then any top ten would have to include;
- Anne McCaffrey, Barbara Hambly, Peter Hamilton and James White for
fantasy/sci-fi,
- A Gerald Durrell or two for animals and humour,
- Terry Pratchett for humour and people,
- Ellis Peters for historical murder mystery,
- Ngaio Marsh or Dorothy Sayers for contemporary murder mystery,
- Georgette Heyer for historical romance,
- Bernard Cornwell for a thriller
- C.S. Forester or Alexander Kent for historical adventure at sea
- Somebody’s autobiography, and history text or two.
Oops that’s fourteen! Mind you in terms of bulk on the shelf, about half the books in her house are sci-fi/fantasy. So, there you go! You may email her at bbe@wild-pear.demon.co.uk.
