Dave Smillie is actually not a real person. It's a pseudonym, designed to protect the secret identity of ... David Smillie.

Well, I never said it was a good pseudonym. I'm a producer for the Discovery Channel. Alas, that does not mean wrestling crocodiles or digging up mammoths. I do, however, get to control science news coverage for two television shows, @discovery.ca, the award-winning Canadian daily science news show, and Science Daily. seen each day on the Discovery Science Channel (and available only to those who think television is worth subscribing to a digital service).

So by day I immerse myself entirely in the ins and outs of daily science news, be it dinosaurs or DNA. By night, I fight crime on the mean streets of Toronto, assisted by my smart-talking robot sidekick ... but I've said too much already.

I tend to read mainly non-fiction. Science, history, social commentary and humour. So that's generally what you'll get from me. Hope you enjoy!
