In a word, Brilliant! In my opinion The Sum of all Fears is Tom Clancy's best work to date. I don't usually go in for the heavy duty spy type novels, but I always enjoy Mr. Clancy's work. This novel is so gripping, so realistic, that I stayed up much later than I should have many nights in a row to finish it. Realistic enough that I was mildly suprised each morning when I didn't see any mention of the goings-on in this book in the Newspaper headlines. What I mean is, it was so real that my subconscious incorporated the plot of this book into what my brain calls "reality", and I had to consciously remind myself that it is fiction.

The book is hefty, over 900 pages, and rather than attempt to summarize it myself, I'm going to steal some copy from inside the cover. (Note to Berkely Books legal department: Send me an email if our society is now so legalized to the Nth degree that I can't even quote from a book I'm raving about!).

The Gulf War is over. An Israeli nuclear weapon is missing. The balance of power in the Mideast - and the world - is about to change forever...
