This book centers on the Incarnation of Evil - Satan. Piers Anthony is back in form on this book. All along, Satan has been a thorn in the side of the other Incarnations. However, this book brings out the reason. Amazingly, I actually began to root for Satan.

Parry is an apprenticed magician. The Inquisition kills both his master and the woman he loves. In an effort to find the killers, he eventually becomes a Monk. His special powers aid him in rooting out true evil. This catches the notice of the Incarnation of Evil, who now begins to attempt to corrupt Parry.

Somewhat predictably, the Incarnation of Evil succeeds. It has one major side effect. Parry actually becomes more corrupt than the Evil Incarnation.

But what about Natasha? She loves him. How will her job as Nature affect this relationship. Also, there is the prophecy. How is her destiny with Evil to become fulfilled?

As the new Incarnation of Evil, Parry takes the name of Satan. He attempts to run Hell properly. But, he has many problems. The denizens of Hell are unorganized, the other Incarnations fight him at every chance, and God seems to not be aware of anything. After many centuries, Parry attempts to meet with the Incarnation of Good. This is unsuccessful.

Gabriel the Archangel then gives Parry a challenge. The challenge just so happens to involve Niobe (from With a Tangled Skein). This is where the previous five books are all tied together.

Parry also learns about the prophecy. How can someone as beautiful as Orb fall in love (let alone marry) him, especially when she becomes the new Incarnation of Nature?

For Love of Evil is the sixth story in the seven-book series TheIncarnations of Immortality. In this series, Piers Anthony has done an outstanding job of mixing science with magic to create a storyline where you don't want to put the book down.

The series is about the seven major Incarnations; Death, Time, Nature, War, Fate, Satan and God. As you read each book, you will see the talent of Piers Anthony. This series is definitely one of my favorites and very addictive. As soon as I finished one book, I had to start the next. I put it up there with Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, David Eddings' Belgariad and and Fred Saberhagen's Swords books.
