E-commerce, if you hear the experts tell it, is the wave of future commerce. However, as many companies have discovered, success is limited by the faith and confidence your customers have in your web-based enterprise. One aspect foremost in consumer's minds is privacy: who will see what I bought and the card I bought it on?

To be sure, most companies on the World Wide Web have instituted secure servers, encryption, passwords, and other tools for protecting privacy. Are there other holes we should know about in the security of data? Is it possible for disgruntled employees to compromise privacy?

This book addresses, obviously, customer privacy. It also addresses issues of worker privacy in the workplace. You know, where the company believes it has the right to monitor your phone calls, e-mail, and web surfing. The authors state that the company does have the right to monitor phone calls, but should also provide pay phones for the personal use of employees.

I also like the practical applications for dealing with customers who are wary. One item is the issue of cookies, where many are still hesitant about the use, or even abuse, of cookies. The authors suggest an alternate web site with the same features as cookies-enabled sites, but with modifications for the cookies-disabled browser.
