This book comes to the US from Canada. And a certain Canadian-ness comes through. For example, the plane that Violet flies is called a "floatplane." In the states we call them sea planes. But that is how we learn about other cultures.
One also learns some mundane details. For instance, did you know Violet pumps water out of the pontoons before she takes off? It helps the plane get airborne faster.
Violet seems to be a colorful pilot. It's not everyday one flies in a purple plane decorated with flowers (violets, I presume?).
Matthew enjoyed this book-maybe because it had an airplane? No age range for children was given. It is a good book to read to children, but for a child to read the book him/herself I would suggested 2nd or 3rd grade reading level. It is not for beginning readers.
For each book sold, the author pledges $1 will be given to the "Heart and Stroke Foundation" in memory of the author's father. I presume that's $1 Canadian?
This book was written by a female commercial pilot. This book is part of a series and is also will be featured soon with a play, puppet show, TV show and DVD.
