Some years ago there was a popular song about a father and his daughter and their special bond made special by "butterfly kisses." This book is in a similar vein.

Emily enjoys visiting her grandparents. They let her eat sweets, stay up late, and jump on her bed. But she hates the end of her visits when she must return home. In fact, she was sad while packing to go home.

Grandma consoles Emily by having Emily sit with her and Grandpa in the garden. Many and varied butterflies fly around, one brushing Emily's cheek. A butterfly kiss, as it were. Grandma then gives Emily a scrapbook for comfort. The scrapbook basically features pages on various natural phenomena, such as the sunshine. The scrapbook urges Emily to remember that that same sun or other phenomena was also experienced by grandma and grandpa.

And Emily reminds her grandparents to remember butterfly kisses as if they were from her.

Children ages 3 to 8, especially those who have grandparents or other relatives living some distance away, will appreciate this book. The book would likely be helpful for a child in a broken home where one parent lives a distance away or only has limited visitation rights.
