Nora Roberts has written over 150 novels and has a legion of fans that rush to buy her latest book as soon as it hits the shelves. I am not one of those fans. I tried to read a romance of hers a few years ago and gave up after 30 pages. A few of the women who work at the library with me recommended this latest novel and I decided to give Roberts another chance. This is the story of Declan, a wealthy Boston lawyer who breaks off his engagement three weeks before the wedding, quits his lucrative practice, and buys a dilapidated mansion in New Orleans that appears to be haunted. Enter Lena, a Cajun woman who is also drawn to this house. Declan is drawn to her and will move heaven and earth to bring the mansion to all its former glory and convince Lena that she belongs there with him. The house is full of ghosts slamming doors and mysterious babies whose cries only a few can hear. The story was okay although I think Roberts would be better off writing fewer books and writing them well. If you like Roberts I am sure you will enjoy this book. If you like the supernatural/reincarnation theme I suggest you try Ciji Ware who does it better.
